In December 2003, when our then 4½ year old daughter Daisy was diagnosed with Leukemia, our world was changed forever. During the following
2½ years of Daisy’s intensive treatments, we saw how emotionally and financially
devastating caring for a child with cancer can be. We wanted to do something to help other families in the community with similar situations.
We decided to turn our annual holiday party into a fundraiser and thanks to
the kindness and generosity of our friends we raised $250,000 the first year for
the Pediatric Oncology Support Team (P.O.S.T.) at the Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s.
Since then, we founded the Be A Star Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) charity, to
help not just the children with cancer, but ALL sick children and their families
locally. In 6 years, we have raised well over $3 million.
