Be A Star Foundation Distribution of Funds

Making a Difference in the Lives of Children with Cancer
and other Critical Illnesses and their Families.

Pediatric Oncology Support Team (P.O.S.T.)

For struggling families, in these difficult economic times, the Be A Star Foundation has been a leader in supporting families who have a child with cancer. Be A Star has done this by:

providing the Child Life Institute’s P.O.S.T. program with support to assist families with living expenses, including mortgages, rent, utilities, transportation assistance, nutrition, clothing and wigs.
underwriting costs of medications, payments for medical services such as neuropsycho logical evaluations, medical equipment and health insurance, as well as lodging, airline and other travel expenses related to medical care.
other support such as the cost of sending children to camps for kids with cancer, special events for families and with funeral and memorial services in remembrance of the pediatric patients who have passed away.

Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation

Be A Star Foundation’s annual contribution to the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation provides funding to support free comprehensive support services at the Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s for children battling cystic fibrosis, sickle cell and diabetes.

A fully funded, full-time, hospital based mental and behavioral health counselor is dedicated to providing crisis management to children and their families dealing with serious illness, injury or trauma. This service is available to patients in the Emergency/Trauma Department, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Additional financial support was provided for a full-time Certified Child Life Specialist assigned to the hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department providing procedural support, medical play and education to children and their families in emergency situations.

Be A Star Foundation’s funding also established the complimentary valet service at the entrance of the Children’s Hospital – providing a critical service to families arriving with a sick child requiring treatment or hospitalization.

Be A Star Foundation ensures that for every dollar we raise at least 90 cents of that contribution benefits the children with cancer and other critical illnesses and their families.
